Star Trac 8720 Recumbent Exercise Bike Review

The Star Trac 8720 Recumbent, like all Star Trac fitness equipment, is designed for heavy commercial use (primarily in fitness centers) but if you are just looking for a heavy duty recumbent bike, with a weight capacity of 350lbs, this bike can also be purchased online for in-home workout rooms. Star Trac 8720 Recumbent Exercise Bike

I have used Star Trac Fitness Bikes at our park district health club and have found them to be sturdy and comfortable machines that can handle long hours of use with little wear and tear.

Star Trac got their start in health clubs and fitness centers with their popular Spinner® brand Spin® Bikes then later, moved into exercise bikes and other fitness equipment.

Although Star Trac equipment is known to be of the highest quality and durability, they are usually overpriced.

Technically, this bike is called the Star Trac ST Fitness 8720. ST Fitness products are designed in the US and distributed by Star Trac. They are still commercial grade products but are a little more affordable than the straight up Star Trac brand.

Note: As of 11/7/2011 the Star Trac 8720 Recumbent is No longer available (was previously selling at Amazon for $1,799.

You can get the same features that this bike has, in addition to a better warranty, with the Sole LCR Light Commercial Recumbent Exercise Bike for about $300 less.

Star Trac ST Fitness 8720 Features:

The most obvious features of the Star Trac 8720 are the features and options that are usually only found on commercial grade stationary bikes. The Self Generating Power, Handlebar Contact and Wireless Heart Rate Monitors, 350lb User Weight Capacity, and excellent warranty stand out on this bike.

About-Bicycles Review:

Although there's no doubt that the Star Trac 8720 is a heavy duty, high quality, commercial grade stationary bike, it is over priced and the future or Star Trac seems a little uncertain right now.

I just spoke to one of the employees at the fitness center of our park district (that has a very large amount of Star Trac fitness equipment) and was told that they were uncertain of Star Trac's future and that they are having problems getting spare parts for this equipment.

This is a very high quality recumbent bike but I don't think that the quality of this bike is an issue. I do think that it is over priced and I have some concerns about the longevity of Star Trac at this time.

You can get the same features that this bike has, in addition to a better warranty, with the Sole LCR Light Commercial Recumbent Exercise Bike for about $300 less.

If you are looking for the rugged 350lb weight limit (but do not need the self generating power or wireless heart rate monitor) the Nordic Track Commercial VR is a good choice, at a much lower cost, and comes with many additional motivational features.
