Mountain Bikes in the Snow.

This past winter, I have noticed a lot of people riding mountian bikes in the snow... Well, I know biking in the snow can be tricky (and dangerous), but I had to go out and check it on a mountian bike this year. Hey, I was really surprised at how well those fat tires handle the snow (I've done the snow on my old 10 speed and that can really hurt!).

No problem, Of course this was only a few inches of snow (a "dusting" as we say in the Chicago area), I will try to do an update when I get a little more ambitious and try it in heavier snow or ice!

Of course, where there's snow... there's cold! (usually anyway). As everyone knows... layers are the way to go. I prefer a warm vest style jacket to keep my arms a little more free. Wear warm shoes (leather works well for the wind) and bring gloves. Even if you don't need them, it's better to have them (throw them in the bike pack) then to need them and not have em.

Mountain Bike Trails and places that few other people have seen...

There are still places where very few people go or can get to. Places where there are no roads, no bike paths and out of reasonable hiking range. If you're not into horses (or dirt bikes in some places), there is really only one other way to get there... Mountain bikes.

I've taken some pretty rough trails, but then I don't want to get into exactly how rough they were, because I know there are always those who have done harder or worse terrain (and lived to tell about it!!!)
